스승의 날 Chuck Berry를 생각하다.

오늘은 아들 녀석이 이번 학기 처음 등교한 날입니다.

느지막이 일어나 대충 아침 먹고 대충 씻고 온라인 수업 듣다가 드디어 등교란 것을 했답니다.

그동안의 자유는 잃어버렸겠지만 즐거웠던 모양입니다.

아내는 아직도 분주합니다. 딸아이가 아직 집에서 수업 듣게 되어 있습니다.

이 녀석은 봄에 맞춘 교복이 아니라 얼마 전 맞춘 하복을 입고 등교할 예정입니다.

입학식은커녕 책 가지러 학교 잠시 가본 게 다입니다.

코로나 19는 이렇게 평범한 일상이 아주 특별한 일상이 되게 만들었습니다.



얼마 전 스승의 날이었습니다.  이 평범하지 못한 일상덕에 은사님을 찾아뵙진 못하고...

대학 은사님께 전화로 안부를 여쭙고 난 뒤 은사님 프로필 사진을 보니 웬 동상과 같이 찍은 사진입니다.

세인트루이스에서 공부하는 아드님 보러 갔다가 찍으신 사진이던데 프사 메시지가... "이 조형물 누구게요?"  ^^

보자마자 전 알아봤는데요.  그는 Chuck Berry!  카톡으로 "Chuck Berry입니다. "라고 메시지를 보냈답니다.

은사님의 답이... "수준 있네... 답 한 사람은 니가 처음이다. "

은사님 덕분에 로큰롤의 창시자 또는 설계자라고 불리는 Chuck Berry를 소개할 수 있게 되었습니다.

오리걸음으로 기타를 연주하는 그의 특징 때문인지 세인트루이스에 있는 그의 동상도 약간 재미있게 표현되어있습니다.

상당히 장수한 뮤지션이죠. 90세까지 사셨고, 80세 후반까지도 공연한 분입니다.

미국을 대표하는 음악인입니다. 로큰롤 명예의 전당에 최초의 헌액자이기도 합니다.

로큰롤의 진수라고 불리는 Johnny B. Goode는 영화 Back To The Future에서 Michael J. Fox가 과거로 돌아가서 연주한 곡인데요.

하여간 미국인들이 아주 사랑하는 분인 것 같습니다.

심지어 The Beach Boys의 Surfin' U.S.A는 Sweet Little Sixteen를 통째로 표절해 버렸습니다.

아무리 60년대라고...   ^^

Surfin' U.S.A의 저작권의 절반은 Chuck이 가지는 것으로 합의를 봤답니다.

 

Beatles도 Sweet Little Sixteen은 리메이크 했더랬습니다.  Beatles도 Chuck Berry의 영향을 받았다 해야겠죠.

흥겨운 로큰롤을 들으며 평범한 일상을 기대해봐야겠습니다.
